Ranch Dressing Mix

Ranch Dressing Mix

You can make it yourself!!!  When you buy dry ranch dressing at Wal-mart it costs $1.32 per envelope.  Make it yourself and spend .17 cents!!!  That's what I call simplifying.  You can find the dry buttermilk with the dry milk section.  Or you can buy it at your local Amish Bulk Food Store. (Fountain City, Indiana - for those of you in eastern Indiana.)
½ cup dry buttermilk
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon ground pepper

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend at high speed until smooth. Store in an airtight container.
To use for salad dressing: combine 2 tablespoons mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup milk.
Use 2 tablespoons in any recipe calling for an envelope of ranch dressing mix.

  1. I was so excited about this recipe until I noticed that my powdered buttermilk says "refrigerate after opening". That defeats the purpose doesn't it? Did I get a weird brand? I'm still excited to try it. Thank you very much for this post.

  2. Hi Jennifer,
I have never refrigerated my powdered buttermilk. I have bought two different kinds (the Saco brand and the Amish bulk brand)and I have never had a problem. The only suggestion that I have is to store the mix in an AIR TIGHT container. The buttermilk will eventually (in @ 4 months) harden up. Although it still works and tastes fine, it just doesn't mix in as well.
Hope your family enjoys it! It's SOOOOO much cheaper :)

  3. Thank you! I have the Saco brand. I made the mix last night. The dry dressing mix doesn't have the same "twang" that store bought powder does, but I used it in a recipe and nobody could tell a difference. I'm so happy to never buy store brand again. BTW, your book is on my Christmas List. I look forward to learning how to make more things for myself :) Thanks again for sharing.
